Albert and Methodius

Albert Veselovsky and Methodius Ponebatko were childhood friends, as well as in literature. I must say that they looked like Pat and Patachon together — Albert was excessively thin and tall, and Methodius, on the contrary, was short and fat.

Once at the beginning of summer, the friends decided:

— It is enough for our families to live and undermine their health in a gas-polluted city, we must move to the country, to some quiet, picturesque place. Health and inspiration will be improved there!

So they decided and did — they moved with their families to a quiet village with the poetic name «Lermontovo». Here the life was bright and free, at the dawn they went swimming in the Volga River, enjoyed sunrises and sunsets, the harmony of nature, the originality of the local flora and fauna.

In the forest, which extended from the village and beyond, there were wild boars and bears, sometimes they entered the territory of the village, it was fascinating.

And in that area there were many different mushrooms, so most of the locals were inveterate mushroom pickers. That hobby even turned into a real business for some of them.

The mushroom topic interested our characters too, they also decided to become mushroom pickers. After taking a serious training course on the Internet, on the YouTube channel, on masterfully learning to distinguish poisonous mushrooms from completely edible ones, they decided to make their first outing to the forest.

Outing for mushrooms

They went mushrooming at dawn, having previously bathed in the river, dressed correctly, in order to protect themselves from the bites of mosquitoes and snakes, which lived in huge numbers in the forest.

Two hours passed, the friends gathered a lot of different mushrooms, and satisfied returned home. Their wives, after consulting among themselves, decided to distrust those mushrooms, and ruled on their case:

— For now we will not eat these mushrooms, and we’ll not allow you to poison our precious children. Go eating your grebes and fly agarics yourselves, and we will get along with our Ukrainian borsch and pampushkas. If the two of you are fine tomorrow, and none of you is dead, we’ll taste these mushrooms too.

And so they did. Cooking together is always more fun, so the friends amicably set to work. Once again looking through all the mushrooms, they chose only the most reliable in appearance, on throwing away everything that seemed suspicious to them.

They fried for themselves a whole pan of mushrooms with onions.

— Oh, I’m probably just a bit tired or something. I’ve been up since the early morning. So I’ll go to bed and sleep a little, and when I come back, I’ll try our mushrooms. — Methodius said.

To be honest, he didn’t want to sleep at all, just at some moment he frightened of a possible poisoning, and decided to quietly retreat to his wife to have lunch with safer dishes — Ukrainian borsch and pampushkas.

Arnold, left alone, became less eager to eat, but he still tried a couple of mushrooms:

— I must say, we have made a delicious dish. — he said satisfied, and went off to nap in the hammock.
